Nurse Joyce Tobo creates a new book for every big reunion for the University of Alberta Hospitals Nursing Program. 2019 was the 50th year celebrations. Joyce had compiled interviews with many of the nurses who graduated in the 1960s, along with photos of them then and now. Together we created a striking album of memories, inspired by the UAH logo as it was woven into their pink nurse’s uniforms. I scanned the belt from Joyce Tobo’s 1969 uniform, and carefully recreated the repeating pattern in both the original pink and cream for the cover, and a greyscale version for the insides. An added touch was to scan two of her vintage nursing pins, reproduced in colour to show their gold with green enamel colouring. Each nurse’s musings and memories was given its own page to create a truly unique keepsake. The cover had the added touch of gold foil for the title, with soft touch laminate that feels velvety in the hand.
Limited edition publication, 2019. 9″ x 6″, 72 pages in black and full colour, soft cover with gold sleeking, soft touch matte lamination.
